After years of living in a period property, the owners decided to build a timber-clad house featuring an inviting kitchen-living space that seamlessly links with its lush garden. A very clean-lined single sweeping island enjoys views across the open-plan space and out through the glazed doors. Clay laminate clads the sides and top of the island, while a natural oak cantilevered breakfast bar blends with the oak door and window frames of the house. To maintain a light and airy feel, a suspended tall block of furniture runs along one wall and is suspended by a concealed steel frame, creating a floating appearance. The block houses most of the equipment and appliances and has been designed to ensure that everything is easily accessible and at the right height.
