In a quaint corner of South-West London, an uncompromising blend of materials comes together in synergy to create a contemporary kitchen designed with entertaining in mind. We were excited to work with a returning client on their second bulthaup kitchen project and begin another design adventure together. The residents are a family, including two young adult sons, who wanted a kitchen in which they could entertain as well as enjoy daily life. A bar with bronze-framed pinstripe glass wall units and an antique mirror splashback has become a real feature, as has the existing AGA. The family wanted to keep the AGA, provided it didn’t overpower the space or interrupt the flow and sociability of the room. A calming palette featuring shades of walnut, sand-beige aluminium, flint and gravel laminate with antique mirror and engineered stone work surfaces complements the clean lines of the bulthaup b3 furniture. As part of the project, the team removed a wall but had to leave a structural pillar on show. We planned the kitchen as if the pillar weren’t there; by cladding the bar in walnut, it cleverly draws your eye away. It is those little details that make the difference.Eagle-eyed readers may notice how the walnut breakfast bar matches the bar opposite in width dimensions. We love how the warmth of the wood pairs with the smoothness of the stone and laminate finishes, adding the final touches to a much-loved family kitchen that will truly stand the test of time.

This bar zone, clad in walnut with bronze pinstripe glass and an antique mirror splashback, transforms the kitchen into a venue for entertaining.
Full-height cabinetry meets the original plaster cornice. Recessed LED lighting is designed to celebrate the home's architectural height.
